It’s easy to find your freedom here…

Wainuiomata Recreation Area

Further up in the hills wild kiwi roam in some of the most beautiful lowland forests. It’s also where the Wainuiomata River and Orongorongo River source from, their clear water contributing to Wellington’s drinking water.

There’s lots of tracks to choose from quick and easy to a bit more effort!

There’s rich history too. When travelling between Wellington Harbour and Wairarapa, Maori would use these hills and valleys. Check out the Historic Dam which is now a shallow lake and wetlands providing the perfect home for native birds including kereru, bellbirds, tui and paradise ducks.

Go a little wild where the kiwi call home
